The basis of the exhibition was a collection of prototypes of AK, work on which was conducted from 1944 to 1949

The exposition, which demonstrates prototypes of automatic weapons developed by Soviet designers, was opened on September 15 at the Military History Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps in St. Petersburg.

"The basis of the exhibition was a collection of prototypes of AK, work on which was conducted from 1944 to 1949. The exhibition features 40 automatic weapons from well-known Soviet gunsmiths and other designers, " explained Yuri Klenov, deputy chairman of the board of the National Association of Reserve Officers of the Armed Forces.

He particularly stressed that the exposition presents "automatic weapons search designs developed in the USSR prior to the work on automatic ammunition for the cartridges of reduced (intermediate) capacity, and early examples of automatic weapons developed by then senior sergeant Mikhail Kalashnikov in 1942-1945.

Exhibition "Birth of a legend. On the way to the AK-47", was organized in 2017, which was marked immediately by two anniversary dates related to the activities of the legendary gunsmith Mikhail Kalashnikov: 75 years have passed since the creation of his first submachine gun and 70 years to the famous AK-47 submachine gun."
